Hosepipe ban on washing cars, pavements and verandas

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that in view of the prolonged drought, which resulted in the reduction of water reserves in the dams, the strict application of the Water Conservation (Special Measures) Law (Law 1/1991) will be observed, based on of which the use of hosepipes for washing sidewalks or roads or verandas or railings or motor vehicles is prohibited.

Any person who contravenes the Act is guilty of a criminal offense and on conviction is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or to a fine not exceeding €513, or to both. Furthermore, according to the Law, an out-of-court settlement is foreseen with the imposition of a fine of €51.

The public is urged to conserve water and to avoid its unnecessary use and waste in any way. Every drop of water counts!
