The PCVC Club is for everyone who owns or has an interest in old cars and motorcycles, and, although based in Paphos, draws its members from all over Cyprus and all ethnic backgrounds.
What is a Classic Vehicle? Any vehicle which was manufactured more than 30 years ago and that has been inspected and approved by OKAK which is the Cypriot representative of FIVA, the International governing body of Classic Cars. The vehicle must however not be a “daily driver”.
If you own such a vehicle PCVC can help with the approval process as they have OKAK inspectors here in Paphos. They can also assist and advise on importation procedures, which have recently become more complicated, particularly from the UK.
Why should you register your vehicle as a Classic? This allows you, in Cyprus, to display black and silver registration plates on your pride and joy to make it stand out further from the crowd. If the vehicle has been newly imported into Cyprus, or, has been here for more than 10 years, you have the option of applying for an “A” plate (this stands for “Antik”, the Cypriot designation for Classic). Most importantly you can also claim a reduction of 65% on your annual road tax.
What cars are owned by Club members? There are all sorts of cars presently within the club, from high end luxury cars, such as BMWs, Jaguars, Mercedes, and even Rolls Royces, to what were every day runabouts, like the Morris Minor. These also include exotic Alfa Romeo, Lotus and Morgan sports cars, weird and wonderful Citroen 2cvs, and humble Minis and 1100s.There is also a number of American classics. The cars date from a Ford A Roadster of 1931 to a Mercedes 230TE of 1991.
The Members of the Paphos Classic Vehicle Club hold a wealth of knowledge of classic cars, which they freely share with each other. This includes historical and technical information, maintenance and repair advice, the sourcing of parts, and, practical assistance with repairs and restoration. Their aim is to keep our motoring heritage where it belongs, on the road, and to this end they arrange a tour through the Cypriot countryside every month. Recent events have included a Picnic run and there are plans for a weekend trip to the Troodos in September.
The club will be holding their Annual Classic Vehicle Show at Paphos Harbour on the 3rd October, in compliance with the present Covid 19 regulations.
