Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 13, 2020:
– One person has died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 78.
– 120 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 15 are in serious condition.
– A total of 9,845 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 2,427 by the molecular method (PCR) and 7,418 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).
– 301 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 15,101 . 301 includes 95 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
– In 202 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID- 19:
One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:
– A woman, 84 years old, without underlying diseases, who was treated at the Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 78, of which:
51 men (65%), and
– 27 women (35%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 78 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 120 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 15 are in serious condition.
Of the 15 patients who are critical, 10 are intubated, one is treated in the Intensive Care Unit and four in the Intensive Care Unit.
C. Molecular examination ( PCR test )
From the 2,427 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 301 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:
- 107 cases from 926 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 70 cases out of 870 samples taken through private initiative.
- 25 cases from 248 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 245 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 2 cases of 2 samples taken as part of the laboratory testing program carried out in nursing homes and other structures.
- 95 cases from 96 samples taken for verification by the method of molecular examination of positive results detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:
- From samples taken under the Immigrant Structures Control Program, 18 laboratory diagnoses were performed, and
- From samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 22 laboratory diagnoses were completed
D. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen Rapid test ): Since the 7418 test performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), obtained 202 positive results.
These 202 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
