Cyprus is not noted for it’s railways, but there are plenty of people who live here who have a passion for them. The Southern Cyprus Model Railway Society cannot offer you the full size version but we do operate three large model railway layouts in 0 scale modern British outline, 00 scale set in the North Yorkshire in the late 1950s and HO scale American set in the late 1990s.
Now nearing the end of a lengthy period of construction and remodelling work we would like to invite fellow enthusiasts to join us to enjoy learning to operate these layouts. Enthusiasm is the chief qualification ideally coupled with an understanding of Digital Command Control (DCC).
Having said all that, you don’t need to know your sector plates from your fiddle yards – we have a lot of modern model railway operation to show you.
If you like the idea of driving model locomotives and long trains or are not sure if you want to get involved, be assured it is risk free. Dr Beeching is just a distant memory and privatisation works very well for us. In addition ASLEF and the NUR have no dispute about operating driver only trains!!
