2024 is the 25th Anniversary of the founding of Paphos International Sailing Club

PISC was formed in 1999 by a group of sailing enthusiasts, the purpose being to promote all aspects of sailing and boating in Cyprus. During the early years of the Club’s existence, activities for the most part involved the sharing of common interests and knowledge in a social setting. The aims of the Club remain the same, which is to promote sailing and boating in a friendly self-help Club with a great atmosphere.

All our dinghy sailing is overseen by our RCS (Rear Commodore Sailing) John Huggett.

It takes place twice weekly at Agios Georgios, a small fishing harbour with a public slipway, a small sandy beach, a cafe and (occasionally) turtles. Social sailing takes place every Thursday and racing every Saturday. There are dinghies for sale and for the use of new members.

An OOD (Officer of the Day) is in sole charge of sailing / racing and all the duty members are in communication via VHF radio. Sailors are required to wear buoyancy / floatation vests and all PISC members are encouraged to be trained in First Aid.

PISC promotes safe sailing – safety is paramount. Consequently, we have two patrol RIBs manned by trained club members, as well as beach crew to assist in launching and recovering the dinghies. We conduct regular training sessions for existing and new members, the next one is in April.

In the Clubhouse we enjoyed a series of entertaining evenings including the Burns Night with a piper and the elusive Haggis, which was well attended. This month we will have a wine and cheese night and on 8th February we will host a dinner and quiz night for the Paphos Kidney Association. On Saturday 10th we have our Valentines Night where the ladies will be waited on by the guys. Later in the month there will be quizzes and a Pancake Night.

We will be holding an Anniversary Ball with a Silver theme to celebrate our 25th Anniversary a little later in the year.

During the month the weather continued to be good and our various competitions continued.

The winner of the December Monthly Series was Alessandro David

The Final Result for the Autumn Series were as follows:

  • 1st Place
Robin Marsh & Barbara Jones in Nimrod
  • 2nd Place
    Tony Edwards in Fox
  • 3rd Place
    Peter Wade in Zimmer

The Winter series is now underway with Paul and Penny Hutton-Ashkenny the current leaders, being chased by Tony Edwards and Jim McLellan.

You don’t have to sail to become a member of our club, but come down and watch the sailors having fun on Thursdays and Saturdays at Agios Georgios. Or enjoy a warm welcome at our Clubhouse on the Coral Bay – Sea Caves road on Tuesday evenings and Friday lunchtimes.

We always look forward to welcoming new members. Contact us at: [email protected]
