Coronavirus: 4 deaths and 349 new cases announced on Monday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 14, 2020:

– Four people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 82.

– 123 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 16 are in serious condition.

– A total of 9,951 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 3,117 by the molecular method (PCR) and 6,834 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).

– 349 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 15,450 . The 349 include 142 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.

– In 212 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

The current results are detailed.



A. Deaths from COVID- 19:

The four people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to COVID-19 are:

– An 85-year-old woman with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, after being transferred from the Timotheos Retirement Home.

– A woman, 86 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, after being transferred from the Peristeronas nursing home.

– A 96-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, after being transferred from the Agios Antonios Retirement Home.

– A woman, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the Limassol General Hospital, after being transferred from the Ekali nursing home.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease is 82, of which:

52 men (63%), and

– 30 women (37%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 78 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 123 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 16 are in serious condition.

Of the 15 patients who are critical, 10 are intubated, two are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and four to the Intensive Care Unit.

C. Molecular examination ( PCR  test )

From the 3,117 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 349 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:

D. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen  Rapid  test ): Since the 6834 test performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), obtained 212 positive results.

These 212 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
