Coronavirus: 2 deaths and 403 new cases announced on Thursday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 10, 2020:

– Two people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 72.

– 106 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 20 are in serious condition.

– A total of 14,567 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 3,736 by the molecular method (PCR) and 10,831 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).

– 403 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 14,052 . 403 includes 152 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.

– In 236 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

The current results are detailed.



A. Deaths from COVID- 19:

The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:

– An 81-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

– A woman, aged 83, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta after being transferred from the Golden Age nursing home.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 72, of which:

47 men (65%), and

– 25 women (35%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 106 patients with COVID-19 are being treated in OKYPY hospitals, 20 of whom are in serious condition.

Of the 20 patients who are critical, 10 are intubated, three are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit and seven in the Intensive Care Unit.

C. Molecular examination ( PCR test )

From the 3,736 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 403 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

D. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen Rapid test ): Of the 10831 test performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), obtained 236 positive results.

These 236 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
