Coronavirus: 1 death and 286 new cases announced on Monday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 21, 2020:

One person has died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 96.

– 127 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 31 are in serious condition.

– A total of 12,772 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 3,929 by the molecular method (PCR) and 8,843 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).

– 286 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 18,004 . The 286 include 156 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.

– In 312 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

The current results are detailed.



A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:

– A man, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 96, of which:

62 men (65%), and

– 34 women (35%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 79 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 127 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 31 are in serious condition.

Of the 31 patients who are critical, 15 are intubated and 16 in the Intensive Care Unit.

C. Molecular Examination ( PCR  test ) : From the 3,929 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 286 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

D. Antigen rapid test: From the 8,843 tests performed by the rapid antigen test, 312 positive results were obtained.

These 312 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
