Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19.
The death of a male patient with COVID-19, aged 91, with an extremely serious medical history who had been transferred the previous days from Socrates Melathro Nursing Home and was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, is announced. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to septic shock. The total number of deaths in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is 34, and the deaths from the ultimate cause of COVID-19 remain 26, 17 men and 9 women, with an average age of 73 years.
In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to information received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, out of a total of 2,706 laboratory diagnoses, in addition to the 35 cases* reported earlier by the nursing home, 162 new COID cases were reported.
In detail, the current cases emerged as follows:
- Out of 852 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 103 cases were identified.
- Out of 315 samples taken through private initiative, 15 cases were identified.
- Out of 155 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 12 cases were identified.
- Out of 1,078 samples taken as part of the passenger and repatriate control, 8 cases were identified.
- Out of 306 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 24 cases were identified.
Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 4,760.
In addition, the Famagusta General Hospital treats 27 people positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, four of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition, five patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the Nicosia General Hospital, while another eight people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward.
