An urgent appeal for Blood Donations was issued by by the Ministry of Health on Sunday 24th February 2019.
The (translated) announcement is as follows:
Increased Blood Needs for All Groups – Emergency Call for Blood Center for Blood Donation
The Blood Center informs the public that there is a very high blood demand for all groups due to the extremely low stocks due to the increased number of blood derivatives that had to be given for transfusion from 1 January 2019 to the present day.
More specifically, from 1 January 2019 to date, more than 12,000 blood derivatives have been transfused, a figure much higher than the usual average. At the same time, influenza and gastroenteritis epidemics have prompted the exclusion of a large number of blood donors from blood donations.
Due to the increased need for blood and for better blood donation services, Monday 25th February, until Wednesday 27th February 2019, Pancyprian Blood Donation Stations will operate on a longer-term basis, as follows:

Limassol – Blood Bank of the General Hospital – 7:30am – 8:30pm
Larnaca – Blood Bank of General Hospital – 7:30am – 6:30pm
Paphos – Blood Bank of General Hospital – 7:30am – 6:30pm
Famagusta – Blood Bank of General Hospital – 7:30am – 2:30pm
