The Good Life of Working Animals A Real Possibility?

Is it possible? When we think of working animals, we all think of hard work, very long hours in all weathers and not the best treatment. And so, how can working animals have a good life?

Well, there are people in this world who make it their mission to spare working animals of part of their name – “working”. To make sure they can live a happy and long life, free of the stresses of exerting themselves till exhaustion as the case is more often than we would like to think possible, there are people, places who save these animals and give them hope once more.

Whether from working on a farm or a field, from being ridden for the fun of tourists young and old, to being used for ‘special’ events in people’s lives or to being used as racers and who knows what else, working animals are indeed very special beings not just by their sheer size, but because of their nature making them absolutely unique.

And so, caring people the world over are finding ways to help these deserving overly sensitive beings, be they elephants, horses, donkeys or their smaller brothers and sisters the goats. They are being saved from nightmarish conditions and put into sanctuaries where they can live their days in peace and quiet, free from the stresses of Damocles’ sword of hard work above their heads.

The best way to help is to sponsor one of these majestic creatures, thus helping them to live a better life in safety. Do it for a friend, for a member of your family, in memory of someone dear, as a present, instead of Christmas cards you would have sent to everyone you know, whichever way – do it. Other than its most important mission of providing actual help to the animal in need, it will give you peace of mind for doing something for the greater good, as well as updates on the animal of your choice. Photos, news and stories, whatever is available, you will be happy to find what your distant adoptee is up to, how he/she is getting on in their life free of stress, if they need anything in particular etc.

Here in Cyprus the only place to house working animals is the shelter of Animal Rescue Cyprus, which throughout the years has seen a sad and significant number of horses, goats and donkeys being rescued from the most dreadful conditions. Should you be looking to offer a helping hand to one of these hard tested animals, look no further. All it takes is an email of intent to Colleen at [email protected] and you will get all the info you need, your certificate with a photo in the name of the person you choose to gift it to (or your own) and your updates when the time comes.
