Pafos United Walking Football

Walking football is a relatively new sport popular in the UK but has now recently expanded to other countries. Recently a walking football group has started in Paphos believed to be the first group in the Paphos area and is known as the Pafos United Walking Football.

Walking football is primarily aimed at the over 50’s and involves football without running, sprinting or jogging. The ball should not travel above head height and is a no contact sport. The matches at present are played at 5 or 6 a side. After a warm up session taken by experienced coaches there are two games of 10 minutes each way and a half time which is timed to enable everyone to recover!

The Paphos group has only been going for 5 weeks and has already attracted over 20 players with ages ranging from 50 to 75 years old.

The sessions are open to both men and women and we are pleased that one woman has already felt brave enough to join the men.

Whilst there is a certain amount of skill involved with players showing varying degrees of ability the aim is enjoyment with the benefits including physical exercise, activity and social interaction – 3 F’s: Fun, Friendship & Fitness.

The sessions take place on a Tuesday morning from 9,45am to approx noon at the AM Fair Game Sports Centre, Tremithousa and alternatively at the Tala Community Council football ground.
