Coronavirus: one death, 149 new cases announced on Saturday (Updated)

The health ministry on Saturday announced that  149 more people tested positive for coronavirus.

Also a 91-year-old woman died at Famagusta hospital.

Covid-19 was listed as the cause of death, bringing the total number of deaths to 33, of which 26 are now directly linked to the virus with the remainder being patients who died with the virus but not of it.

Of the direct Covid deaths, 17 were men and nine women and the average age was 73, the health ministry said.

The 149 new cases announced on Saturday came from 4,783 tests.

In detail, out of 838 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 9 were identified.

Out of 1,974 samples taken through private initiative, 84  were identified.

From 32 samples taken from hospital labs, 8 cases were identified.

Out of 895 samples taken as part of passenger controls, 10 cases were identified.

Out of 172 samples taken under the schools programme, 1 case was detected.

From 261 GP referrals, 4 cases were found.

From 66 samples taken as part of sampling in sports, 1 case was identified.

In Polis, from 295 samples taken,13 cases were identified.

Out of 250 samples taken as part of a sampling test of residents of Kyperounta, 19 cases were identified.

The total number of cases is now 4,366.

Twenty-four people are in Famagusta General Hospital, three of whom are in the high dependency unit.  In addition, at the Nicosia General Hospital, five patients are being treated in ICU while another eight are being treated in a Covid ward.
