Coronavirus: 4 Deaths and 907 Cases Announced on Tuesday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 29, 2020:

– Four people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 117.

– 154 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 42 are in serious condition.

– 18,070 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method (antigen rapid test).

– 907 new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 21,315 .

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The four people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:

– A man, 82 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the Limassol General Hospital.

– A woman, 83 years old, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

– An 84-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

– A woman, 88 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Nicosia.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 117, of which:

76 men (65%), and

– 41 women (35%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 80 years.



B. Patients:

In total, 154 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 42 are in serious condition.

Of the 42 patients who are critical, 20 are intubated, five are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 17 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive COVID- 19 cases ( PCR  test and rapid  antigen test  ) : From the 18,070 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 907 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 153 cases from 1,002 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 10 cases from 652 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 343 cases from 2,039 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 27 cases from 375 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 5 cases from 57 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 369 cases from 13,805 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • 12 samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias.
