Coronavirus: 252 new cases and 2 deaths announced

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The death of two patients with COVID-19 is announced. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to COVID-19. Specifically, these are:

– A 75-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

– A 64-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

The total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease is 45. -29 men (64%) and 16 women (36%)-, with an average age of 75 years.

The Ministry of Health informs that a total of 10,959 tests were performed today to detect COVID-19 disease consisting of 5,424 PCR Tests and 5,535 Rapid Antigen Detection Tests.

A. Molecular Examination ( PCR  test ): 5,424 laboratory diagnoses were performed by the molecular method (PCR), with 188 cases of COVID-19 disease, which resulted as follows:

  • Out of 695 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 116 cases were identified.
  • Out of 1,766 samples taken through private initiative, 41 cases were identified.
  • Out of 296 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 9 cases were identified.
  • From 243 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.
  • Out of 734 samples taken in the Limassol District as part of the control of workers who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Limassol and Paphos Districts, 7 cases were identified.
  • Out of 265 samples taken in Paphos District as part of the control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Limassol and Paphos Districts, 5 cases were identified.
  • From 128 samples taken in the Province of Larnaca in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Districts of Limassol and Paphos, 1 case was identified.
  • Out of 702 samples taken in the District of Nicosia in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Districts of Limassol and Paphos, 3 cases were identified.
  • Out of 90 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 2 cases were identified.
  • Out of 65 samples taken as part of the laboratory testing program carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 3 cases were identified.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • From samples taken during the control of passengers and repatriates, 326 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
  • From laboratory samples taken in the Province of Famagusta in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 34 laboratory diagnoses were performed, and
  • From samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, 80 laboratory diagnoses were completed.



B. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen  Rapid  test ): 5,535 performed by the method of fast (rapid test antigen detection), with 57 positives.

In addition, the positive result was verified by the molecular test method for 64 samples of positive results detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days. A positive rapid test result was not verified by the molecular test. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by PCR are included in the number of daily cases and the total number of cases below.

Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 9,199.

C. Patients:

In total, 101 COVID-19 patients are treated in OKYPY hospitals.
