Coronavirus: 245 new cases announced on Saturday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health informs that a total of 13,443 tests were performed today to detect COVID-19 disease, consisting of 7,235 PCR Tests and 6,208 Rapid Antigen Detection Tests.

A. Molecular Examination ( PCR test ): 7,235 laboratory diagnoses were performed by the molecular method (PCR), with 245 cases of COVID-19 disease, which resulted as follows:

  • The 36 cases are cases that were positively detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days and were verified by PCR. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by PCR are included in the number of daily cases and the total number of cases below.
  • Out of 414 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 45 cases were identified.
  • Of the 2,414 samples taken through private initiative, 101 cases were identified.
  • From 186 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 14 cases were identified.
  • Out of 396 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 11 cases were identified.
  • Out of 1,027 samples taken in the Limassol District as part of the control of workers who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Limassol and Paphos Districts, 18 cases were identified.
  • Out of 191 samples taken in the District of Paphos as part of the control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Districts of Limassol and Paphos, 2 cases were identified.
  • Out of 864 samples taken in the District of Nicosia in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Districts of Limassol and Paphos, 4 cases were identified.
  • From 302 samples taken in the Province of Larnaca in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 2 cases were identified.
  • Out of 270 samples taken in the Province of Famagusta in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 1 case was identified.
  • Out of 10 samples taken as part of the laboratory testing program carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 2 cases were identified.
  • Out of 393 samples taken under the immigrant structures control program, 3 cases were identified.
  • Out of 174 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 5 cases were identified.
  • Out of 573 samples taken as part of the passenger and repatriate control, 1 case was detected.



In addition, 21 laboratory tests were performed on samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, without detecting a case.

Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 8,498.

B. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen Rapid test ): 6208 tests were performed with 79 positives.

C. Patients:

The Famagusta General Hospital treats 63 people who are positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, five of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital treats a total of nine patients, three of whom are out of ventilator. A patient is being treated at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital, Archbishop Makarios. Another 11 people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at the Nicosia General Hospital, while seven patients are being treated in a ward at the Limassol General Hospital.
