Coronavirus: 2 deaths and 416 new cases announced on Monday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 7, 2020:

– Two people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 63.

– 126 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of which 20 are in serious condition.

– A total of 9,452 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 4,347 with the molecular method (PCR) and 5,105 with the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).

– 416 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 12,867 . The 416 include 200 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.

– In 127 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID- 19:

The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:

– An 84-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

– A man, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Thus, the total number of final causes of COVID-19 disease is 63, of which:

41 men (65%), and

– 22 women (35%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 126 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 20 are in serious condition.

Of the 20 patients who are critical, 9 are intubated, four are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and 7 to the Intensive Care Unit.

C. Molecular examination ( PCR  test )

From the 4,347 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 416 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:

  • 144 cases from 948 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases out of 2,114 received as part of passenger and repatriate control.
  • 48 cases from 556 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 10 cases from 243 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 5 cases from 186 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 200 cases from 210 samples taken for verification by the method of molecular examination of positive results detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.

In addition, 90 laboratory diagnoses were performed from samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, without detecting a case.

D. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen  Rapid  test ): Since the 5105 test performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), obtained 127 positive results.

These 127 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
